Recreation

rec1

The Recreation service provides a wide range of activities for children and young people aged 5 -25 years on the autism spectrum, with a specific focus of enhancing their social skills, functional daily living skills and employability skills.  These skills are taught in a differentiated manner to meet their complex learning needs and supported by staff with knowledge, skill and understanding of autism.

The majority of the children and young people who access our Recreation Service have been excluded from mainstream services due to lack of understanding of their complex needs.  We aim to overcome the feelings of isolation and rejection our children and young people experience through daily exclusion, by providing a safe environment with an opportunity to build a social network and experience positive role models, informal education and most of all, have fun!

Our Saturday Clubs and Playscheme are Ofsted-registered, graded as “Good with outstanding Features” in our most recent inspection.  The report states:

“Children’s safety is given top priority. Staff have a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding issues…The very high ratio of staff to children ensures that the children are safe and well supported”

Our youth projects are innovative in their structure as these are delivered in partnership with London Borough of Hillingdon Early Intervention Services for Children and Young People.  Our youth sessions are based in various locations across the borough using the council’s specialist Young People’s centres.  The young people benefit from a diverse staff team comprised of qualified youth workers from the council’s early intervention team and qualified HACS staff members with knowledge, skill and understanding of autism.
