Disability Confident Scheme

Disability Confident is creating a movement of change, encouraging employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2)

At Hillingdon Autistic Care and Support (HACS), inclusion is at the heart of everything we do — not just in the services we deliver, but in the way we run our organisation. We are proud to be recognised as a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2), a formal commitment to breaking down barriers and supporting people with disabilities and neurodivergent conditions to thrive in meaningful employment.

As a charity dedicated to supporting autistic individuals and their families, we believe in leading by example. That means actively championing the employment of neurodivergent people within our own workforce, and embedding inclusive practices throughout our recruitment and workplace culture.

What this looks like in practice:

  • Guaranteed Interview Scheme: We offer a guaranteed interview to disabled and neurodivergent candidates who meet the essential criteria for the role.

  • Inclusive Recruitment Methods: We recognise that traditional interviews aren’t always the best way to assess potential. That’s why we offer adjusted recruitment processes, including work trials, informal assessments, and alternative ways for candidates to showcase their strengths.

  • Workplace Adjustments: We make tailored, reasonable adjustments to support our team — from flexible hours and sensory-friendly environments to mentoring and structured onboarding.

  • Staff Training and Awareness: Our team receives ongoing training in neurodiversity and inclusive practices, ensuring that our workplace continues to evolve as a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for all.

  • Hillingdon Supported Employment Forum: We are proud members of the Hillingdon Supported Employment Forum, working collaboratively with local employers and services to promote inclusive employment across the borough.

By embracing the Disability Confident principles, we are not only opening doors for others — we are building an organisation that truly reflects the diverse community we serve.

"At HACS, we don’t just support autistic and neurodivergent individuals — we champion their right to meaningful, valued employment. Becoming a Disability Confident Employer is a vital part of our mission to lead by example. We’re proud to create a workplace where neurodivergent people are seen, heard, and hired — not in spite of their differences, but because of the unique strengths they bring."

Stephanie Mullally, Director of Operations
